Chart – Stop spending money, jobs go away

I’ve been monitoring the deterioration of the retail complex in 2014. XRT rolled over 10 days before the broader market:

Last week Bloomberg reported retail sales in January fell and the December number was revised from an increase to a decline of .1%. Whether it’s the weather or something more ominous the relationship between consumer spending and and jobs is important. Declines in consumer spending lead to fewer jobs.
